Mentor , Leader and Positive Thinker

 Love God and Family

I was born and raised in Louisville, KY.  I got married in 1965 and still married to him 44 years later.

Left Louisville in 1978 and was in Southern  California from 1979 - 1993.  Moved again due to job change to outside Birmingham, AL.  Lived there until 2002 and moved to Lebonon, MO and I am here to stay.

I have been blind in my left eye since I was a child and in 1984, I was diagnosed with Retinitis  Pigmentosa which is a slow progressive retina destroyer which leads to legal or complete blindness.

I had worked most of my life and found myself unable to work due to the onset of blindness.  It was not total but progressively getting worse.  I have always been a very active person and found myself in a position where the activities had to change.   I made a vow to myself that I would not let this so called handicap stop me on what I wanted to do.  It did stop me from driving and  a loss of freedom.  I knew I had to take control or I would vegetate.  I decided that I wanted to do something so I went into direct sales with a company that I am still with part time.

I attended conventions and did all the things that a sighted person would do.  I had limitations but I did not allow them to get in my way.  I use a white cane that is my eyes and I went forward.  At my first  convention, I found myself without an escort to take me around.  I had to make a decision if I would stay or go back to the room and sit alone.  I decided that I would do it myself.  This taught me that I could do anything that I set my mind to, all I need to do was ask for help and it was there.  After asking for help the first time, I had excorts from all over the United States looking for me to make sure I made it to my next seminar..  I experienced a feeling  of freedom that I had not felt for a  long time.  I knew then, I could do anything that I set my mind to.

Since that time, I have experienced a lot of difficulties but I have taught myself how to stay positive.  This positive thinking has been my motivator for my future.  Now at 72 years old, I feel that for the first time that I Own My Life.  This is the greatest feeling of freedom that anyone can have.  I have found a group of people that are always by me to support me if I need them.  They are not here with me physically but by emails, conference calls and mentally.  The group is called Mentoring For Free.  They are the greatest support anyone can ask for.  They do not try to change your thinking but help you think your own thoughts.  I feel God led me to this group and I thank him for it.  My life is getting better and better.  I can ask for no more.  I would like to share my thoughts through my blog and that is the reason I started it.   Thanks for being here and come back for more.

God Bless

Maggie
